When we first decided to form Bingo Records as
a label for children's music CDs, there was really
no question regarding the first group that The
Bingo Kids would sing. It had to be The Beatles.
There can be little doubt that the music and
songs of The Beatles influenced the world in ways
that can hardly be fathomed. The magic and charisma
of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison
and Ringo Starr was undeniable. To this day, Beatles
albums are regularly at the top of the catalog
charts in Billboard Magazine, people take Beatles
tours in Liverpool, and Beatles festivals are
as popular as ever. Every couple of years a Beatles
landmark arrives and interest is renewed. The year we recorded this album was the fortieth anniversary
of The Beatles appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show,
and the date made headline news. Stay tuned for
Paul McCartney’s 64th birthday in 2006.
We are sure that When I’m Sixty Four
will climb the charts again. (And while you’re
at it, re-listen to the version done by The Bingo
Kids!)
When we were young, The Beatles were the first
music that out parents played for us. With this
background, we grew up with a deep and profound
interest in music, melody and lyrics. This love
of music was so great that we both grew up playing
numerous musical instruments and having careers
in the music industry. Indeed, Michael relates
a story that The Beatles are so intertwined with
his youth that listening to Abbey Road
inescapably brings the image of Snack-Pack Butterscotch
pudding to mind (he notes that this also is true
of I Am The Walrus and Fool On The Hill,
but curiously not the earlier Beatles songs or
albums). We now have young children of our own
and the first music that we are introducing them
to is The Beatles. While our kids love the original
versions of The Beatles songs, they most often
request and dance to The
Bingo Kids Sing Beatles Hits For Kids.
We hope the same happens for you and your kids
as well.
At some point Paul McCartney said something to
the effect that many of the early Beatles songs
were written so that youngsters could sing along
and enjoy the melodies. There can be no greater
confirmation than from Paul himself. The music
of The Beatles is universal. It is the music of
childhood and adulthood, and that is why The Beatles
were the first group chosen for The Bingo Kids.
